What You Will
A virtual site-specific Choose-your-own-adventure promenade around the globe
What You Will is a step towards a virtual theatrical promenade, a fresh approach to online performance. This is not a re-telling of the story of Twelfth Night. This is an exploration of mood, of motif and humanity: a collage of mind states of the play’s characters, shipwrecked in their own lives. Every visitor may choose which character to visit with, and visit with all characters, as many times as they wish. Come & explore a corner of the world-country of Illyria! Nine players devised their timeline in isolation, and performed with audience members sitting or walking with them, while simultaneously live-streaming to audiences around the world. Filmed in Japan, India, Europe, the UK, the USA, & Canada, visit and observe fragments of their life’s story, music & song their only guide, in a time out of joint. Take a different path through Illyria, as many times as you like. Come, turn the mundane into the extraordinary. For more information, visit www.theShakespeareEnsemble.com
Audience Role
Every visitor may choose which character to visit with, and visit with all characters, as many times as they wish. Upon entry to the micro-site, users will be presented with a Map of 9 pictures, representing 9 characters. Clicking a picture will take the user through to a character page; here they’re presented with a video live-stream, where one of our actors will be sharing their devised work. Also on each character page there will be routes to other characters’ rooms; some characters are connected to many others, some to few or none. Take a virtual promenade around the world-country of Illyria, visiting with whomever you wish, as many times as you like over the 45 minutes. Every 10 minutes or so Feste will sing - go to watch her play, or see how her songs affect the characters - it’s up to you! From the 15th August onwards, the web version of What You Will goes live, at which point users will be able to repeat the experience as many times as they like, finding as many different paths through the characters’ stories as they wish.
