In this speculative tale, a Black clown finds herself on a Middle Passage journey of survival and repair. An unlikely deep sea diver, she becomes immersed in a salvage operation to recover what was lost. Drawing on African and Caribbean history and memory, this solo performance is a mash up of mime, movement, mask, and installation. There will be two Black Out performances. Taking place in a gallery, an optional Q&A and exhibition viewing is offered after each show. Thank you to the Ontario Arts Council and the Government of Ontario for funding support.
Audience Role
The performer will select audience members to assist in the placement of stones on the floor, in the formation of a symbol, in the last scene of the performance. After each performance, time is allowed for audience members to enter the performance space to view the set piece/artwork and props/art objects up close, as well as to enter the adjacent gallery space to view the artwork on exhibit there.
