Chrismukkah in July! Join our eerie & cheery VR Theatre mashup of Christmas, Hanukkah & spooky shadows. Welcome to Respite: The Fantabulous Chrismukkah Extravaganza! Live theatre in Virtual Reality. Brought to VR by Emmy Award winning Ferryman Collective and adapted from Odyssey Adventure Co's award-winning immersive theatre show, this celebrated production has enchanted audiences worldwide, garnering awards and translations into multiple languages. Now, it’s reimagined for the holidays with vibrant, animations and decorations from the one and only Screaming Color! Welcome to Respite is a unique Virtual Reality performance that explores the parts of our mind that both help us and haunt us through the lens of a mental illness called Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), formerly known as multiple personality disorder. Audiences may attend from anywhere in the world, as long as they have a Quest 2, 3, 3s, Pro or PCVR and VRChat. Narrative Summary Upon visiting your family's home after your mom's passing, you are whisked into a forgotten memory from childhood. Each interaction is as meaningful as it is fascinating when you rediscover your past and delight in the simplicities of being a kid once again. However, something is not quite right. Perhaps it's the masked tension between your parents. Maybe you are hearing voices that seem to be only in your mind. It could even be that there is a monster hiding in your closet. After all, respite is only temporary when you are at the whim of your own mind. Welcome home, Alex. How it Works Welcome to Respite will be performed live with two actors playing multiple roles. Audiences may attend from anywhere in the world, as long as they have access to a VR headset! Through the magic of VR technology, participants will feel fully immersed into the 3D world. The production will provide support in getting them into the performance and troubleshooting any technical difficulties. The experience is guided, so participants can expect to be given instructions throughout. We offer TWO experience types: PREMIUM- There is only ONE premium ticket available for each show time. This audience member will be the primary focus of the experience, playing the role of Alex. Participants in this category can expect a high level of interactivity. GENERAL- General audiences will serve as passive spectators of Alex's experience, playing the role of the alternate personalities within the personality system. While they will not interact with characters directly, they will be given unique opportunities to interact with and explore the space, seeing parts of the story that the premium ticket holder doesn't, and moments to help protect Alex. Because immersive theatre shares many of the same experiential qualities as narrative gaming along with the environmental immersion of virtual reality, this unique work will flourishes in VR. Participants experience real-time responsive interaction that feels intimate and personal. Supporting Mental Health Welcome to Respite deals with serious topics such as mental illness and the effects of trauma. While this experience is meant for entertainment only, it is our intention to use our platform to promote empathy towards those who are struggling mentally, and to end stigma against such illnesses. Mental health affects all of us. An astonishing one out of five U.S. adults experience a mental illness at some point in their lives, with a multitude of symptoms that not only challenge individuals and their families, but communities as a whole. Those who choose to seek help should be applauded and supported when they reach out to manage these difficulties.
