Welcome Mat 2 - People 0
Delving into the universal truth that "intolerance is intolerance"
Inspired by Welcome Mat, which responded to national discourse on immigration and religious freedom, this new performance is a timely reflection on the challenges and hopes of today’s diverse communities. Through the voices of individuals from varied backgrounds and faiths audiences will experience a profound convergence of personal narratives, sound meditations, music, puppetry and projection mapping, all within an evocatively designed space. There is an urgent need for empathy and unity, a space where everyone, regardless of background or belief, can feel seen, safe, and valued. The performance space within the Embarcadero Building will be transformed into a series of rooms bathed in ambient light, creating an immersive environment that invites the audience to move through individual narratives and shared meditations. Alongside an immersive setting where audience movement and participation are welcomed, performers will share intimate accounts of the narratives collected through interviews, mass media and historical accounts, drawing on real experiences of displacement, resilience, and faith. Past audiences have been moved to embrace and connect within these safe spaces, reminding all who attend of the power of human stories to bridge divides and foster compassion. By weaving together distinct cultural expressions, Artstillery reaffirms its commitment to creating performances that foster dialogue, healing, and understanding.

About Artstillery
ARTSTILLERY PRODUCES EXPERIMENTAL AND IMMERSIVE WORKS THAT PUSH THE BOUNDARIES OF WHAT PERFORMANCE LOOKS LIKE. Founded in 2016, Artstillery creates performances centered around issues of racial, cultural, and social injustice. Sometimes a story needs a storyteller, but that starts with listening. Our process begins with research using a combination of community outreach and interviews. We combine these stories with an interdisciplinary artistic approach that creates a ‘total theatre’ experience. Artstillery’s goal is to give a voice to people who feel they have none. Audiences should be more than just spectators. We’ve traded the fourth wall for an experiential performance style that creates immersive theater. Artstillery’s approach is a process of research by gathering stories though community engagement, interviewing, and documenting experiences. We combine those stories with mixed media, performance, sound design, video, and art installation for a completely immersive performance. We activate spaces through empowering community. We activate artist ecosystems.
