Was Me Is Me
Was Me Is Me' is a multi-sensory interactive theatre experience
An introspective journey representative of a collection of women’s shared experiences through traumatic and emotional life stages ranging from childhood through old age. Never the same show twice… An all female-identifying cast rotates roles each show. This production was initially conceived in Spring 2020 during the height of the Pandemic in NYC in which the impact of isolation and economic instability among our woman-centric cast led to a deep introspective journey into our lives’ most intimate and painful moments. Cast members have referred to the performance as a: “visual representation of leaving the chaos of the world and coming back to the truest version of self and community and the help and support it gives us.” “It is about not having to feel shame knowing who I am. That I am developing into me..and this is part of the process.” “It is a hope and a major triumph, a memory in history for me.” WMIM is a multi-sensory interactive choreographed journey that audience and cast take together. Everyone is a participant, not a spectator, from the moment they enter the installation in The Muse’s large reconstructed warehouse space. Utilizing dance, aerial art, and music to tell the story the performance takes on the urgency of living in that moment in which one explores their past in all its complexities, learning acceptance and healing through connection with everyone who takes this journey with them.
