Vexations in time

Through this interactive reimagining of Erik Satie’s Vexations, the artistic team reflects on the collective uncertainty felt during the "re-opening" of the world and the reemergence of the heartbeat of New York City: Live performance. Erik Satie’s mysteriously repetitive Vexations serves as the background for this semi-improvised, interdisciplinary performance art piece, “Vexations in Time,” which will be layered with dance performances, poetry readings, visual art, 3-part operatic vocals performing original compositions commissioned for this piece, and more. Amidst the whirl of creation, the audience will be invited to take an active role in shaping the atmosphere. As guests explore the space (perhaps while sipping on a themed cocktail) they will have the opportunity to respond to the piece by making sounds, moving their bodies, meditating, creating visual art, and responding to prompts and questions. The durational piece will be performed overnight at Nancy Mandocherian’s the cell theatre, beginning April 1st at 8pm and concluding around 12pm Saturday, April 2nd. General admission includes unlimited entry and re-entry. If you choose to join us overnight allow the music to lull you to sleep, there will be mats and pillows available in our meditation lounge. In the evening we will be serving a specialty cocktail and a mocktail will be available, along with wine, beer, and some food items. For the late-night insomniacs, we'll have fresh baked cookies.
