Upon Re-entry

An immersive installation about trying to return

Upon Re-entry Immersive Event - Main Image

Are we falling? Are we failing? Dare we fly again? In 2003, NASA lost the crew of the Columbia shuttle during a failed re-entry. As we look to return to our old orbits, how can we successfully navigate this time of loss and hope? Upon Re-entry is presented gallery-style. You make an appointment to enter and then stay as long as you wish. There is a living installation of overlapping performances, videos, and musical sequences for you to explore. All artists and visitors will be masked and must have proof of vaccination.

About Die-Cast

Die casting is a metal casting process that is characterized by forcing molten metal under high pressure into a mold cavity, filling the mold entirely to create a new object. Die-Cast was founded in 2017 to explore new relationships between the visitor and space. Die-Cast incubates work within spaces that are often inaccessible to audiences or are not thought of as performative spaces. We look to fill those spaces with the work and have the work shaped by the space in turn. We have created 15 pieces since our founding. We do not fit easily into any box. We have been nominated for the prestigious Harvey Award for Best Adaptation of a Comic Book, alongside Hollywood Blockbusters like Marvel Studio’s Avengers: Endgame. That adaptation, of the award-winning comic Snagglepuss, continues its development, and we are preparing for a live radio broadcast to be released in collaboration with DC Comics this year. Die-Cast was commissioned to create a public installation for Art Week Miami 2020. Our piece Temporary Occupancy combined pre-recorded and live-streaming video projected two stories high on an exterior wall on Ocean Avenue, the busy downtown strip. The piece won the Juried Prize of $20,000 for the No Vacancy Festival, with Maria Elena Ortiz, Associate Curator at the Perez Art Museum Miami, noting that. "With impressive technological qualities, Temporary Occupancy is an ambitious and poignant project, embodying the artistic spirit of Miami Beach.” Most recently, Die-Cast was commissioned by the I-Park open-air gallery to create a new installation for the Site Sensitive Biennial. The piece, Inter Terrestrial will be on-site until March 2023 and combines craftwork like decoupage and high tech with a video installation featuring 360 degree and drone footage. The work is also available for visitors to explore online, with a digitally immersive experience that visitors can explore with any device, including VR goggles.
