witness pop-up moments of movement, music & monologue throughout the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood.
See the world premiere of Time of Change created by the Artistic team, co-directors: Joe Goode/Joe Goode Performance Group, Melecio Estrella and OYSTERKNIFE (Chibueze Crouch + Gabriele Christian). This is an in-person show that will guide small audience groups through the streets of the Haight-Ashbury to witness several pop-up moments of movement, music, monologue and more. Time of Change will weave and examine the utopian ideals and failures of the hippie era – as they relate to our current revolution. The project will uplift real peoples’ histories, examine the whiteness of the hippie movement, and explore what intersectional liberation means. JGPG is presenting this project with SF Heritage (in the Doolan-Larson Residence at Haight x Ashbury), to celebrate their 50th Anniversary (and JGPG’s 35th). About Joe Goode Performance Group
JOE GOODE PERFORMANCE GROUP (JGPG) PROMOTES UNDERSTANDING, COMPASSION AND TOLERANCE AMONG PEOPLE THROUGH THE INNOVATIVE USE OF DANCE AND THEATER. The three pillars of our current programming include: creating and presenting new dance-theater works; expanding movement education access to all people; and managing the Joe Goode Annex, an affordable studio theater in San Francisco. In Goode’s words, “I want to make “human scale” dances. “By human in scale, I mean placing the emphasis on the unglamorized body, the body in more intimate moments, when it is fallible or agitated or inept. My intent is not to create merely pedestrian movement, but to make dynamic movement that is a combination of gesture and partnering.” The company is committed to opening audiences’ minds to the limitless potential of where and how performance can be experienced. JGPG has incorporated spoken text, singing, video, and puppetry into its works.
