The Texture of Air

A permanent sound and sculpture installation honoring two historic London hospitals, built from 40 oral histories

The Texture of Air Immersive Event - Main Image

The Eastman Dental Hospital (est. 1931) and Royal National Throat Nose and Ear Hospital (est. 1874) both left their historic homes on the Grays Inn Road and united in a new shared facility in October 2019. On the Record was commissioned to commemorate two famous hospitals at a moment of change — and to document the extraordinary perceptual worlds within them. The audiovisual work that opens the above website is at the heart of this project, illuminating the people and places that mean most to staff and patients.
