Subverting the usual historical city walking tour, you’re invited to pause – perhaps at the hairdressers, the corner shop, or the late night takeaway. Hear from the people behind the counter in this audio portrait of individuals who all happen to work along the same street. Intentionally made with a mix of people who have citizenship – by birth or application, and people who don’t – by choice or circumstance, The people of Lavender Hill asks how we come to be somewhere, why we stay, and what it means to live side by side. It invites reflections that span nationalism, neighbourliness and plans for tomorrow. The people of is a complex, transient, portrait of place, re-made across different cities, from Recklinghausen, Germany to Manchester, UK – and now London. On 6 Mar, you will be sent instructions with the audio file, route details and further information how to access the audio-walk.
