Social Software by Lauren Lee McCarthy and Casey Reas together with UCLA cohort Social Software brings artists together to explore the role of software in culture. Discover new projects developed by the Social Software Cycle 1 cohort and collaborating artists, Esteban Arellano, Elise Chee, Chelly Jin and Aurora Mititelu. ANIMALATION Vol. 2 & MAKE BELIEVE – Expanded Cinema installations by Kordae Jatafa Henry Experience ANIMALATION, a durational billboard on Jerry Moss Plaza LED screens. The piece functions as a performance ritual from the unreleased film IF NOT NOW. Removed from narrative continuity, the figure becomes architectural, operating as a signal, monument, and temporal interruption within the plaza. MAKE BELIEVE blends performance, animation, and myth. Constructed in material-modelling software, the work explores immaterial fiction. Across four connected screens, it merges into one hybrid moving-image essay. We, The City by Dr. Stuart “Sutu” Campbell and Tani Ikeda We, The City invites Angelenos to share their voices, their concerns and their hopes for what comes next. This citywide storytelling and public art, featuring collected audio stories, will become an augmented reality installation at Los Angeles City Hall, creating a powerful collective experience rooted in community. As this project grows, the stories will remain accessible through a smartphone app and a website, building a dynamic civic archive. Key insights will also be shared with City departments to help shape policy and strengthen community action. Data Storytelling featuring Call / Code / Response by Processing Foundation's 2025 Fellows The Processing Foundation is a nonprofit open-source creative software organization rooted in access, empowerment, and community participation. In 2025, its Fellowship Program expanded through partnerships with arts organizations to break disciplinary silos and develop groundbreaking experiments in emerging technologies for the next generation. Developed through the 2025 Extended Reality Fellowship Call / Code / Response explores how creative coding can expand the expressions of live performance, drawing from hip-hop, slam poetry and call-and-response practices. Gracias Por Tu Viaje - Interactive Salvadoran Forest Installation by Daniel Sol Villanueva Gracias Por Tu Viaje is an immersive interactive installation inspired by the landscape of El Salvador. Los Angeles-based Salvadoran American artist Daniel Villanueva reimagines a Salvadoran forest in the digital space, reflecting on the diasporic experience and the longing for connection to one’s homeland. A love letter to immigrants and the paths they travel, the work invites guests to engage through movement, using their bodies and hands to shape and grow a vibrant digital forest. WorldLens: expression through innovation presented by the Michael's Daughter Foundation Experience a short work-in-progress animation created by youth at the Los Padrinos Juvenile Detention Facility, led by Teaching Artist Daniel Sol Villanueva. Through WorldLens, justice-impacted youth engage with augmented reality, animated filmmaking, and emerging technologies to imagine new worlds and bring them to life through original short films. By connecting innovation with self-expression, the program cultivates real-world technical skills, creative confidence, and tangible pathways toward futures shaped by possibility rather than circumstance.
