The Dunwich Horror: An Opera

What do you do when the world is ending and the only thing left is to put your arms around your loved ones and hope? A trip to a rural American town of the 1920s where folk music helps break the barriers between worlds.

A rural town. A dark summoning. A hunger that destroys all. Can you survive the Dunwich Horror? Performed in near total darkness, The Dunwich Horror: An Opera is a soundscape of life in an isolated village being terrorized by a force it doesn’t understand. With flute, theremin, and the human voice, Jen Hazel‘s original score will bring you into HP Lovecraft’s tale with a strong seasoning of American vernacular music of the 1920s. Storyteller Laura Sampson and experimental musician Sam Enthoven return from the Dreamlands shadow puppet shows alongside TL Wiswell. Do you dare enter a world of party line phones, dusty grimoires, and extradimensional beings with a thirst for blood? In the end, your voice may be needed to set Dunwich free. While this show can be enjoyed by those who have no desire to participate, we will actively encourage you to join forces to help free Dunwich from the mysterious thing that is terrorizing it.

Audience Role

The audience will be encouraged to participate in a ritual to banish the creature from this universe. This can be done while seated.

About London Lovecraft Festival

We celebrate the Weird and Uncanny in all its forms. From Cthulhoid cabarets to plays, interactive immersive horrors and even operas, the London Lovecraft Festival has become the UK’s home for thoughtful, funny, and groundbreaking responses to the originator of cosmic horror. Through reinvention, parody, and supporting artists he would have shunned, we strive to reimagine that legacy for the modern age.
