Submerge: Beyond the Render (DC)
Fourteen bold worlds and 18 interactive installations crafted with the tools of tomorrow.
SUBMERGE PROJECT ARTECHOUSE DC's next exhibition features fourteen bold worlds and 18 interactive installations crafted with the tools of tomorrow. What happens when today's leading digital artists are given the runway to create at the speed of their imagination? Find out at SUBMERGE Project. Anchored by Beyond the Render, this 45-minute show transforms ARTECHOUSE DC's floor-to-ceiling canvas into a vivid, 280-degree, 18K digital world. Powered by Render Network's distributed GPU infrastructure, 13 artist teams—including Emmy winners Emily Yang (pplpleasr) and Maciej Kuciara—bring studio-scale, spatial storytelling to independent digital art like never before. New York-based studio Interactive Items invites visitors to shape AI-generated imagery through voice and gesture, convene AI-embodied philosophers in a living dialogue, and trace how language and meaning evolve over time. Elsewhere, a second set of installations reimagines Beyond the Render's featured artists' signature imagery as responsive, real-time environments — flamingos that react to visitor movement, a droid that trades places with whoever approaches it, a field of color that ripples with gesture, and an AI character that holds real-time conversation at the exhibition's end screen. Each edition of SUBMERGE Project brings together distinct artistic approaches to examine how technology is changing the possibilities of contemporary art. WHAT TO EXPECT A 45-minute program of 14 short, back-to-back works, each at most approximately three minutes, from 17 visionary digital artists. Across the lineup, you'll dive into underwater realms, discover immersive versions of Emmy Award–winning creations, and step into sleek, futuristic worlds. Unwind to a stained-glass music box that captivated Coachella audiences, and leave inspired by the future of digital art. 18 auxiliary installations extend the exploration of authorship and perception from the immersive canvas into direct, physical exchange.
