SPATIAL
a three-day festival for Spatial Sound, Music, Art and technology
SPATIAL is a three-day festival for Spatial Sound, Music, Art and technology. The art of listening communally is at the centre of SPATIAL—to truly listen is to listen with the whole body. With no typical stages and no best seat, the festival aims to erase the boundary between art and the audience. The way we perceive sound, as one of the most subtle refined and complex ways we perceive space, will be at the core of the festival’s experiences. Our “main stage” which is our large-scale 4DSOUND system will present the majority of artworks in complete darkness offering an opportunity for the listener to reorientate away from the noise, and stresses of our fragmented and polarizing screen/visual-based environments towards a uniquely embodied and expansive experience, connected to sound and space in its purest form.
Audience Role

About Monom
MONOM is an artist-run cultural centre and sound laboratory. The space is powered by 4DSOUND technology, an instrument and sound system that immerses listeners inside 48 omnidirectional speakers suspended throughout the venue and extending to 9 powerful subs submerged beneath an acoustically transparent floor. MONOM is an experimental performance venue and state of the art spatial sound studio that explores how spatial sound technologies and practices can contribute to increased opportunities for artistic experimentation and collaboration across disciplines. At MONOM the audience is enveloped completely within the artwork, enticed as active listeners to explore a shifting sonic landscape made up of dynamic sound arrangements that play with the laws of perception, and entirely subvert them.
