Romeo & Juliet: An Immersive Experience Immersive Event - Main Image

Step into Verona like you’ve never seen it before with Romeo & Juliet: An Immersive Experience, a daring new adaptation by Jack Zerbe. This modern retelling of Shakespeare’s classic love story uses contemporary music, bold design, and dynamic staging to pull you right into the heart of the action. Performed in UNOTheatre’s Experimental Blackbox, this production breaks down the walls between actors and audience — you’ll move through the space as feuds ignite, lovers meet in secret, and tragedy unfolds all around you. With its mix of timeless poetry and a strikingly modern world, this Romeo & Juliet is visceral, immediate, and impossible to look away from. Our Romeo and Juliet is a contemporary, totally immersive participatory experience with lighting, video, and performances surrounding the audience in a full 360-degree wraparound. Upon entering the theatre, all attendees will be designated as either Capulet or Montague and invited to join the action in key moments. Three seating options support this unique event: Standing: for those who want to join the action, you can stand in the middle of things on the stage floor, chanting, moving, and sometimes dancing during the show. Bleachers: for those who wish to be close to the action but would rather sit, these are two rows of raised seating on risers just above the stage floor. Balcony: for more traditional theatre goers there are two different levels of upper-level seating that allow one to watch with less direct performance interaction.

About University of Nebraska at Omaha Theatre Program

Sense. Reflect. Collaborate. Delight. Theatre is the most immediate way to share with another the sense of what it is to be human. In addition to their involvement in university theatre productions, theatre students regularly collaborate with Omaha’s theatre community and take part in for-credit internships. Through in-class and production work, students gain valuable life skills including discipline, collaboration, communication, research, planning, meeting deadlines, and problem-solving. CFAM offers more than $300,000 in scholarships each year.
