Prelude to 2100

Set in 2050, Miami’s museum-park, the Deering Estate, has been converted into a residential complex of tenants who have been displaced from different parts of the world due to climate change. When rooms become available, they decide to host their first open house, while re-opening partially as an art space after recent repairs from a hurricane.  Prelude to 2100 features a theatrical component written by Juan C. Sánchez and directed by Jennifer de Castroverde, interactive installations by artists Laurencia Strauss, Kerry Phillips, and the Department of Reflection, plus dance works by Olujimi Dance and Sandra Portal-Andreu. Other artworks featured are by AMLgMATD, Cara Despain, Alicia Eggert, Gustavo Matamoros, Jits Microfarm, The Queer Theory Library, Carrie Sieh, Fereshteh Toosi, and Kim Yantis & Lucinda Linderman. Conceived and curated by Susan Caraballo In collaboration with over 30 dance, theatre, sound and visual artists Originally scheduled for two weekends and staged throughout various intimate spaces in the historic homes at the Deering Estate, Prelude to 2100 has been adapted to take place entirely outdoors from Feb 3-6 due to the recent Omicron surge.  Capacity will be limited and admission will be staggered with timed entry. See more on Deering’s COVID-19 policy below. This is an immersive arts experience that invites you to be more than a spectator. By attending, you agree that you are willing to participate in, and not be disruptive, of this immersion. As part of the nature of this work, guests may be required to stand, walk, climb stairs, and may be separated from their group.  There will be an ADA route available. If you require this, please request when purchasing tickets. TICKETING POLICIES: · Parental supervision recommended for audiences under 18. The event is open to audiences 13 years of age and up. · All ticket sales are non-refundable, except as it pertains to COVID policies stated above. Tickets are also transferable. COVID-19 POLICY: Live Arts Miami is fully committed to the health and well-being of every visitor and staff member.  Masks / facial coverings are required indoors in all Miami Dade County buildings. As a Miami-Dade County Park, the Deering Estate is an entity of Miami-Dade County and is strictly following all procedures and protocols as outlined through the Mayor’s office. All visitors and staff will be required to practice physical and social distancing. No visitor or staff will be granted entry if they are demonstrating symptoms of COVID-19 or have been determined to have had trace-contact with a person diagnosed with COVID-19.
