PLAY THIS: HAMILTON

Audio Theatre in Unexpected Places

PLAY THIS: HAMILTON Immersive Event - Main Image

'PLAY THIS' merges audio theatre, music, and augmented reality to offer a series of playful, site-specific experiences around our city! Each of the three audio tours are geo-located--meaning they're best experienced on location, from a mobile device, and with headphones. Try your hand at ghost hunting on the grounds of Dundurn Castle--or look through your phone to find the fairies that hide in the Castle's gardens. On Concession Street, step back in time to learn about the history of early Black settlement on Hamilton Mountain; and jump into an imagined future during Anna Chatterton's piece for Ottawa Street North. After a year of prep, commissions, audio editing, and website building--we're thrilled to share these first three pieces with you! 'PLAY THIS' launches for FREE during Hamilton Arts Week (June 9-17) with digital offerings from Anna Chatterton, Klyde Broox, and Robert Motum. Keep an eye out for three more experiences coming later this summer--by Nada Abusaleh, Miranda Morris, and Trevor Copp!

About Tottering Biped Theatre

Tottering Biped Theatre (TBT) was founded in 2009 as a social justice inspired theatre company. We devise contemporary pieces through a workshop process spanning several years to create highly physical works of artistic excellence during the Fall/Winter. We also tour 'Liquid Lead' gender neutral partner dance talks and workshops. During the summer, we create contemporary, highly physical interpretations of Shakespeare. Our works have addressed poverty, Israeli-Palestinian relations, same sex marriage, violence against women, and mental health. TBT has toured to/been presented by regional professional theatres (Hamilton’s Theatre Aquarius, London’s Grand Theatre, and Kitchener’s MT Space), performing arts centres (Burlington, Oakville, Guelph, Brampton, Hamilton, Mississauga, Richmond Hill), and theatre festivals (IMPACT, Undercurrents, In the Soil) as well as internationally (New York, Virginia, and North Carolina - USA; Dublin, Ireland; Tirana, Albania). In recognition of our work, TBT has been supported by the Ontario Arts Council, the Trillium Foundation, and the Canada Council for the Arts, and our work has been featured in over 15 publications including CBC, the Canadian Theatre Review, Dance International, Whole Note, and TED.com.
