Pipilotti Rist: Big Heartedness, Be My Neighbor

first West Coast survey of the internationally renowned Swiss media artist

Pipilotti Rist: Big Heartedness, Be My Neighbor Immersive Event - Main Image

Pipilotti Rist: Big Heartedness, Be My Neighbor is the first West Coast survey of the internationally renowned Swiss media artist. Rist’s installations explore relationships of video and the body; exterior environments and interior psychological landscapes; and reason and instinct. They exuberantly probe the video medium’s capaciousness—for vivid color; sweeping views and extreme close-ups; introspection and cultural critique; and, importantly, the creation of shared experiences within the public space of the museum. The exhibition surveys more than thirty years of the Zürich-based artist’s work, encompassing early single-channel videos; large-scale installations brimming with color and hypnotic musical scores; and sculptures that merge everyday objects, video, and decorative forms. Pipilotti Rist: Big Heartedness, Be My Neighbor also debuts a new audio-video installation made specifically for The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA. MOCA will check vaccination status upon arrival for all visitors 12+. MOCA recommends all guests to wear a surgical, KN95, N95, or KF94 face mask while on MOCA premises. Visitors 12+ who are unvaccinated are required to provide a negative Covid-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours or a negative Covid-19 rapid test taken within 24 hours. At home tests are not accepted. Do not visit MOCA if you are feeling sick, have a fever, or have had any symptoms of COVID-19 or exposure to someone with COVID-19 in the past 14 days. A contactless temperature check station is in the lobby for your protection. Maintain physical distancing. Stay 6 feet apart from other visitors and staff. Follow all signage and staff instructions. Tickets for Pipilotti Rist: Big Heartedness, Be My Neighbor allow for a FREE second visit to the exhibition. Paid ticket buyers will receive a special code via email to reserve their return tickets. About The Museum of Contemporary Art

Established in 1979, we are the only artist-founded museum in Los Angeles. We are dedicated to collecting and exhibiting contemporary art. We house one of the most compelling collections of contemporary art in the world, comprising roughly 7,500 objects, and have a diverse history of ground-breaking, historically-significant exhibitions. We are committed to the collection, presentation, and interpretation of art created after 1940, in all media, and to preserving that work for future generations. We provide leadership in the field by identifying and presenting the most significant and challenging art of our time, actively supporting the creation of new work, and producing original scholarship. With two distinct venues in Los Angeles—MOCA Grand Avenue, and The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA—and Michael Heizer’s seminal artwork Double Negative (1969-70) in the Nevada desert, we engage audiences through an ambitious program of exhibitions, educational programs, and publishing.
