Pericles

Portland’s smallest theatre company teams up with its largest in an immersive high seas adventure!

Pericles Immersive Event - Main Image

Bringing together the vaulting ceilings and balconies of the PCS Armory's two-story lobby, stylized puppetry and paper-craft props, the absurdism of British humorist skits, and the visual style of 80s and 90s adventure films - audiences travel through the Armory lobby as we follow King Pericles on a journey through the seven seas in search of love and fortune. Join Speculative Drama for a surrealist exploration of class dynamics, whether one can be both a good king and a good man, and the struggle between power and personal fulfillment - all through the eyes of one very unreliable narrator, John Gower. Sleep No More meets The Adventures of Baron Munchausen in this ambitious and innovative tenth anniversary show. Don’t miss your chance to set sail with us this September! All tickets pay-what-you-will. 100% of ticket sales and donations go directly to cast and crew. Speculative Drama is a program under Misfit Academy, a performance oriented 501(c)3 and all donations are tax-deductible. Masks are heavily encouraged and we will have N95 masks available at the door. Anyone wearing an N95 mask will receive a special thank you gift from the cast and crew! Performers test twice weekly for your safety - please mask for theirs if possible. Financial and physical accommodations are available. This performance is an immersive, roaming performance in a large indoor space with excellent ventilation. While all scenes will be audible from most areas of the lobby, audience members are encouraged to move about the space and follow the action for the best experience. The PCS Armory lobby is fully accessible including ground floor accessible gender-neutral bathrooms, elevator access to the second story lobby balcony, and scattered cafe table seating. Performers will move throughout the venue and audience should be prepared to be within 6 foot proximity of unmasked performers and other audience members. About Speculative Drama

Speculative Drama was founded to explore the intersection of classic stories and immersive theatre. Helmed by Artistic Director and London-trained classical and movement actor Megan Skye Hale and Creative Director, Sound Designer and Portland-based musician Myrrh Larsen, Speculative Drama aims to reclaim the relevance of myths, fairy tales, and Shakespeare through movement theatre, immersive staging, and site-specific production. In an ongoing collaboration with local underground performance venue The Steep and Thorny Way to Heaven, we place the audience directly into the action of our productions. Combining the principles of site-specific theatre, rich and immersive soundscapes, and an extremely intimate setting, we create an atmosphere of innovation while honoring and maintaining the original texts or source materials.
