OTHER ORBITS
A spectacular, accessible play where audiences can interact with alien species!
Other Orbits is an immersive installation play with parallel Narratives. It's Pee Wee's Playhouse meets the UN Summit in a camp science fiction extravaganza. Mutant creatures gather at an interplanetary council meeting and struggle to get their voices heard and their needs met. Will collective decision-making succeed? Can the planet speak for itself? Who will judge the karaoke contest? Will they even get through the agenda?! This truly unforgettable, 360 degree experience transports audiences to another world where larger-than-life aliens and sentient plants and machines stop being polite and start getting real. Other Orbits: The Live Show is the culmination a multi-modal serial performance piece running from 2021-2023 with episodes in many different formats, from a radio station to a tabletop role-playing game to a comic book, all telling an epic story of ecological reckoning and cultural survival. For more information visit www.appliedmechanics.us Notes: Parking on site. Run Time: est. 90 minutes TICKETS: Ticket prices are sliding scale at $20, $30, $50 and a $15 industry rate. If you purchase the $50 ticket, you are welcome to come to the show up to three times!!! Transparency on pricing: Producing a show like Other Orbits costs over $100,000. The total budget covers design materials, artist salaries, tech rentals, venue, insurance, rehearsal space, and various odds and ends of production. Ticket sales cover only a portion of these costs. If we were going to break even on ticket sales alone, each ticket would have to be around $200. Instead of limiting ourselves and our audiences in this way, we have chosen a tiered ticket price model for the production and resourced the majority of our budget through grants, donations, and other forms of earned income.
Audience Role
An Applied Mechanics show invites you into a world in action. You are in charge of your own experience: you can look at one thing, while listening to another. You can craft your own juxtapositions of sound and image. You can edit together your own journey through this world, this story, this full and active community. An Applied Mechanics show surrounds you, draws your attention to corners, offers you details that have been carefully tended, and brings you into relationship with characters who never exit, because it takes all their stories to make the world. - Rebecca Wright (director)
