Olafur Eliasson: Yellow fog

Every day at dusk, VERBUND shows Yellow fog, the first permanent intervention in public space in Vienna by the renowned artist Olafur Eliasson. The work was installed together with the artist and has been on display for an hour every day at dusk ever since; during the winter months Yellow fog is not on display due to safety reasons. The work transforms the square and the building into a stage of fog, light and wind. For Olafur Eliasson, fog is a tool for making spatial connections and distances tangible. Fog machines and yellow lights are installed beneath the grating in the ground in front of the building. After dusk, yellow fog rises up in front of the facade. Daily at dusk, 32 fluorescent tubes emit a specific yellow light, attuned by the artist himself, and illuminate the Verbund building. Fog rises up the façade at regular intervals, from street level to the roof, in a cycle that repeats throughout the display.
