MTFxR Launch: Building The Future

Introducing MTFxR, a new initiative at Musical Theatre Factory to explore and support the creation of musicals in extended realities (XR). MTFxR provides opportunities for musical theatre makers and XR developers to experiment, build new ideas, and create radical storytelling through fruitful collaborations. We hope to challenge the limits of what musical theatre can be, who it’s by, and who it’s for. XR allows us to create innovative, immersive experiences that have never before been possible by taking us to new worlds and transforming how we view the physical world around us. This initiative seeks to integrate the creative pipelines of theatre and XR to expand how we collaborate, create new work, and shift culture. Throughout the year, we will be hosting events for connection, education, and skill-sharing to build a more equitable and inclusive future of performance. On October 23rd, our launch event will introduce our first year of programming, investigations, and offerings. After a quick primer to the musical theatre and XR worlds, we’ll hear from three fantastic artists leading the way at this exciting intersection. Finally we’ll break into groups to rapidly brainstorm ideas of our own- to begin to build the future together.
