Manzanar Immersive
Experience the hardships and perseverance of a Japanese American family during World War II
Manzanar Immersive is an educational “live interactive narrative experience” that shares important lessons about the Japanese American World War II history in a hands-on, engaging environment where the participants are part of the show. Manzanar Immersive is a live “empathy” experience in which people collaborate to solve puzzles, complete activities, and interact with character actors as they proceed through the narrative of a Japanese American family living through the wartime experience. Manzanar Immersive will help people learn about Japanese American history, culture, and values along with other learning skills, such as collaboration, communication, and empathy. The story of the Japanese Americans during World War II is one that directly relates to the civil liberties and social justice issues of today. Understanding the discrimination and hardships that Japanese Americans faced in the 1940s is extremely important for everyone today in order to better relate to the prejudice and hatred that seems to be gaining momentum in today’s society.
Audience Role
Each person will be a member of the Nakagawa family, a Japanese American family living in the 1940s in Gardena, CA.
