James Turrell: Unseen Seen + Weight of Darkness
A paired perceptual-cell and sensory-deprivation installation in Mona's Pharos wing
Unseen Seen + Weight of Darkness is a paired James Turrell installation in Mona's Pharos wing, opened in December 2017. Visitors lie down inside Unseen Seen, an enclosed perceptual-cell capsule, choosing a "hard" or "soft" setting for an intense, rapid-fire light experience. Immediately afterward, visitors move into Weight of Darkness, a sensory deprivation room devoid of light and sound. The experience runs approximately 45 minutes and is strictly for ages 18 and over. It is not suitable for people with epilepsy or sensitivity to rapid-fire lighting, and should be avoided by pregnant visitors or those with a pacemaker. The space is not accessible with mobility aids.
