James Turrell Museum at Bodega Colomé

The James Turrell Museum of the Hess Art Collection is the only museum in the world dedicated specifically to the work of James Turrell. Commissioned and built by Swiss businessman, wine producer and art collector Donald M. Hess, the museum showcases nine light installations representing five decades of Turrell's career, across 18,084 square feet of exhibition space, based on a plan created by Turrell himself. Among the works on display are Spread (2003), a 1,229-square-meter environment of walkable blue light, and Unseen Blue (2002), the largest Skyspace in the world, located in an interior courtyard and reaching its greatest intensity at sunrise and sunset. The museum is located within Bodega Colomé, one of the oldest working wineries in Argentina, in the remote Calchaquí Valleys of Salta Province. Visits are by guided tour only, with limited capacity, and reservations are strongly recommended.
