James Turrell: Dividing the Light
Turrell's first public Skyspace in Southern California, free and open anytime
Dividing the Light, a Skyspace by James Turrell '65, is perhaps the most glowing example of public art on the Pomona College campus. Turrell received his undergraduate degree in perceptual psychology from Pomona, and this work is his first public installation in Southern California. The lighting programs are keyed to sunset and sunrise. The sunrise lighting program begins 100 minutes before sunrise. Every hour on the hour, there is a brief chime of light. The public is invited to visit Dividing the Light anytime; no reservation is required.
