Aqua Oscura; a disused water tank is home to a camera obscura that presents a moving projection of light, emerging through the tree canopy high above. Housed in a former Victorian water tank buried in the hillside, this camera obscura offers a different kind of light experience. Instead of looking up at the open sky, you step into near-total darkness. After a moment, a faint image of the world outside, trees, sky, movement, appears via a small aperture. Here, light is revealed as something fragile, elusive, and indirect. Where the Skyspace is expansive, Aqua Oscura is intimate and ghostly, a study in contrast that deepens the overall experience of Turrell's vision at Tremenheere.

About Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens

Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens is a 22-acre sub-tropical and exotic sculpture garden in a sheltered valley near Penzance, Cornwall, overlooking St Michael's Mount. Internationally renowned artists — including five members of the Royal Academy of Arts — have interacted with the landscape to create site-specific permanent works which harmonise with the setting. The guiding principle of the garden has been to evolve a naturalistic, Arcadian space that blends elements of landscape, planting and art to create a place for contemplation and wonder.
