Intertwined Memories
An interactive installation in which visitors co-create a braided net that holds memories of home, belonging and inclusion, intertwining Toronto's diverse communities.
Hair is a thread that connects people and embodies cultural storytelling. Hair braiding is a metaphor for the interweaving and strengthening relational bonds. Over the course of the event, a braided net comprised of fabric and synthetic hair will be co-created by attendees. A variety of textiles, drawing and writing materials will be used. Attendees are invited to share their stories by weaving their memories into the installation. The braided net grows in length with each story added illuminating the stories of cultural intertwining. "Intertwined Memories" reveals and reclaims the stories and collective memories of Toronto's diverse population and becoming a part of tomorrow's collective memory.
