in Water, Together

In Water, Together invites visitors into a glowing environment shaped by water and light, with moving images and surround sound rising from the Reflecting Pool at Nathan Phillips Square. As people walk through the space, they activate and remix hundreds of recordings of rivers, waterfalls, forests, glaciers, and microscopic plant life—material Alexandra Gelis Lombana gathered during fieldwork around the world. Rooted in direct encounters with water, plants, and living landscapes, the installation treats water as a living archive that carries memory, movement, migration, and life across places and bodies. When visitors move together, the images and sounds grow more layered and alive. The full work emerges through shared participation, creating an immersive experience that brings people together and sparks reflection on ecological care.
