a dress-up screening

In the Mood for Love Immersive Event - Main Image

The Garden Cinema's Chinese Cinema Project presents a dress-up screening of In the Mood for Love. In Hong Kong, 1962, Chow Mo-Wan (Tony Leung) is a newspaper editor who moves into a new building with his wife. At the same time, a beautiful secretary, Su Li-zhen (Maggie Cheung), and her executive husband also move in to the crowded building. With their spouses often away, Chow and Li-zhen spend most of their time together as friends, sharing many things in common, from noodle shops to martial arts. Soon, they are shocked to discover that their spouses are having an affair. Hurt and angry, they find comfort in their growing friendship even as they resolve not to be like their unfaithful partners. In the Mood for Love is famous for its evocative depiction of Eastern aesthetics and for the subtle, intimate romance which plays out against a backdrop of 1960s Hong Kong: a dreamlike fusion of the East and West. For the first time in the UK, this iconic film representing the best of Wong Kar-Wai and Chinese Cinema will be experienced in a full-venue immersive environment, as a celebration of Chinese New Year 2024 – The Year of Dragon. What Can You Expect? • A glamorous cheongsam dress-up party that will fulfill everyone’s 'Wong Kar-Wai style Qi-pao dream'. • An exquisitely decorated space that transports participants back to old Shanghai and Hong Kong. • Actors in pairs recreating scenes from the film, inviting us to blend in and be part of the story. • A special cocktail menu inspired by the film and complimentary Chinese festive snacks/dim sum. • Classic Chinese New Year activities, i.e. mahjong and red packets. • Countless cinematic photo opportunities and chances to make unforgettable Chinese New Year memories.
