HOLE

A new outdoor, site-specific Neo-Futurist play that revolves around the act of literally digging a large hole in the ground

HOLE Immersive Event - Main Image

The critically-acclaimed San Francisco Neo-Futurists are thrilled to announce their new full-length show HOLE. Set outdoors at the beach, HOLE is a site-specific play that revolves around the act of literally digging a large hole in the ground, moving through themes of obsession, identity, community, kindness, and the strange persistence of compulsive digging in pop culture. A play without a fourth wall (or, in fact, any walls), HOLE asks the audience: What needs to be done for you to take up the shovel? Named one of “22 San Francisco things everyone must do” by the SF Chronicle for their flagship show The Infinite Wrench, the SF Neo-Futurists have been performing an ever-changing roster of 30 original plays in 60 minutes every Friday and Saturday for twelve years, premiering over 4,000 short plays since their founding in 2013. With HOLE, the company expands beyond the microplay format to bring their unique non-illusory aesthetic to the outdoors with a full-length hour-long play. Performances are at 2:00 PM & 5:00 PM on the first three Sundays of September: September 7, 14, and 21. Tickets are sliding-scale starting at $25 and can be purchased at https://sfneofuturists.org/hole. Free or discounted tickets or available by request; no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Audience Role

All audience participation is completely optional. One portion of the show involves walking for 5–10 minutes, but you can choose to remain sitting if you prefer. Select audience members may be invited to speak or to join the performers in or around the hole.

About San Francisco Neo-Futurists

The San Francisco Neo-Futurists are a collective of wildly prolific artists dedicated to the perpetual creation of experimental theatre that is immediate, ephemeral, accessible, and cheap. We believe the stage is an extension of daily life: we perform as ourselves in a non-illusory, interactive style that challenges the audience to create alongside us as active participants with a voice of their own. Named one of “22 San Francisco things everyone must do” by the SF Chronicle, our flagship show The Infinite Wrench is an ever-changing collection of 30 short plays performed in a race against the clock, every Friday and Saturday, 50 weekends a year. Every week, we cut between 2 and 12 plays, to be replaced with new plays the following week. Since our founding in November 2013, we’ve written and performed over 4,000 original short plays. The ensemble has been called “a hotbed of energy and creativity” by the San Francisco Chronicle, and has won a number of local awards, including “Best Theater Company” multiple years in the SF Bay Guardian’s Best of the Bay Readers Polls.
