An immersive musical journey into the hippie counterculture and sexual revolution of the 1960's

HAIR: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical Immersive Event - Main Image

Join Rooftop Musical Society on their latest immersive theater endeavor- the iconic hippy rock musical HAIR! This is HAIR as you’ve never experienced before. Step into our 1960’s Flatiron District loft as we guide you on immersive journey through the hippie counterculture and sexual revolution of the era. Surround yourself with psychedelic pop-art, groove to 1960’s beats, grab a far-out cocktail, experience a mystical card reading, enlist in the army, or join the draft protest, before settling in for the trip… as we perform the entire musical in an interactive 'theater in the round' style setting. We invite you to dress in your best 60's threads for the occasion! Book and lyrics by Gerome Ragni and James Rado, and music by Galt MacDermot. Produced for the Broadway stage by Michael Butler. Originally produced by the New York Shakespeare Festival Theatre. Rooftop Musical Society is an immersive musical theater company that puts the audience in the center of the production. We re-invent classic musicals with immersive elements, top-notch talent, skilled musicians, all set within the world of the show. In the past we have produced sold out productions of Spring Awakening and Into the Woods throughout two floors of a historic church in Williamsburg, as well as several pop-up shows throughout NYC outside during the pandemic.

Audience Role

The audience will have the opportunity to arrive up to an hour before the "show" begins for the immersive pre-show. This is a time for the audience to wander, grab a cocktail, and engage with the different installations and actors throughout the space. Then, at showtime, the audience will be seated right in the heart of the action (basically WITH the actors), for an unforgettable interactive version of the full musical!

Ages: 18 +

There is a very brief scene of nudity that happens to represent a protest, but doesn't show people engaging in any sort of sexual encounter.
