Join in on the first collaboration between Real Pirates Salem and Intramersive, to celebrate Pride as only we can – with pirates and a chance to go on account! 🏴☠️🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ Famous pirates and lovers, Mary Read and Anne Bonny, are looking for their own taste of independence. In striking out on their own, they are also seeking to gain renown as well as the attention of Ching Shih, also known as “Madame Cheng” (Yes, we are fudging the timeline a little… we know!). Having been declared an insurance liability for their partner, Calico Jack Rakham, Anne and Mary are looking for a crew that has the heart, the guts, and the iron will to take to the high seas. Will you throw your hat in at Captain Blackfrog’s Tavern, proving your worth to join these two fearsome female pirates? About Real Pirates Salem: Experience history first-hand with real stories and real adventure through an exhibition of real pirate artifacts recovered from the shipwrecked Whydah Gally, discovered by famed underwater explorer Barry Clifford – including everything from canons and pieces of eight, to jewelry and weapons… all lost for almost 300 years! Time: 7:30pm Ticket Price: $30 per person, 30 audience limit Please bring proof of vaccination to the event, if no proof of vaccination is available please mask during the show to keep our geusts and actors safe.
Audience Role
Anne and Mary are looking to hire a crew for their new venture, but since piracy is democratic and both of them know that they cannot ask the crew to do anything they wouldn't do they are interviewing their prospects by telling tales and sharing stories. Guests will be taking on the roles of perspective crew mates and will be encouraged to tell stories of their own about times they have lived up to Mary and Anne's requirements. No one has to tell a story, stories don't have to be true. This is a lighthearted event so lean into silliness, queerness and fun.
Ages: 18 +
This show is about queerness in piracy in the 18th century. It is lighthearted and comedic but there will be open conversation about the relationship between Anne Bonnny, Mary Read and Calico Jack. All of these topics are being handled with sensitivity and we are casting queer actors, and crew and working with local organizations for sensitivity. This is a queer positive space.
