How do you build a future amidst climate crisis?
Climate change anxiety. Motherhood. Desire. Fire. Against the backdrop of a record-breaking fire season in California, Capital W asks: how do you build a life amidst climate crisis? FIRE SEASON is an in-person, COVID-safe exploration of climate change guided by the essays, stories, and prose poetry of writer/performer Monica Miklas. The experience will take place at Paramount Ranch, itself a burn site from the 2018 Woolsey Fire, where audience members will bear witness to both destruction and renewal. Designed with COVID-19 safety in mind, FIRE SEASON invites up to eight audience members to listen over headphones to Miklas’ live performance of her words, broadcast locally over FM transmitter. As they interact with the sonic experience, audience members undertake a self-guided (and socially distanced) exploration of the outdoor performance location, reflecting on their own place in the landscape and the larger crisis. COVID-19 Precautions: -Event is entirely outdoors -Masks are required at check-in -Physical distancing required at all times
Audience Role
There is no verbal interaction interaction in the piece. Audience members MUST handle an FM receiver that will be provided to them. Audiences can also optionally take a folding stool and/or headphones with them into the field. All of these items will be sanitized before and after shows per CDC specifications. Regarding Mobility: Audience members can choose the level of activity that feels right for them. The main area at Paramount Ranch is accessible via a flat dirt road. There is shade and seating for patrons who choose not to hike. Patrons choosing to hike may encounter uneven terrain and other normal trail hazards. Patrons with questions about mobility access are encouraged to contact the company. We want to make this work for you!
