FIELD STUDY
an experimental light and sound installation
Compound is excited to present Chromasonic – Field Study, an experimental light and sound installation. This installation is an opportunity to ponder presence both individually and in community with others. It is an occasion to notice how our experience of a constantly shifting environment shapes the perspective of what we see and what we don’t see. Each of the four rooms (nodes) in this multi-layered experiential environment is activated by a single source of sound or light at any given time. The installation uses Chromasonic Refrequencing, a real-time translation of light frequencies to sound, and sound frequencies to light, in effect making light audible or sound visible. Chromasonic started as a collaborative art studio and research lab founded by installation and multi-media artist Johannes Girardoni (@johannesgirardoni ), with sound artists and musicians Orpheo McCord (@orpheomccord ) and Joel Shearer (@joelshearer ) in 2018. Chromasonic (@chromasonic) creates large-scale, polysensory installations to explore non-ordinary states of consciousness through the development of organic technologies that harmonize light and sound frequencies in immersive communal environments. About Chromasonic
Chromasonic explores intersections of art and science to elicit visceral and potentially transformational experiences of presence, awareness, and connection. Our sites embrace both physical and virtual sensory technologies. Merging light and sound, we create harmonic connections between natural and artificial cognition. The works blur boundaries between physical reality and our perception, creating conditions that appear to shift the experience of time and space. Chromasonic started as a collaborative art studio and research lab founded by visual artist Johannes Girardoni with sound artists Orpheo McCord and Joel Shearer. The StudioLab explores the potential of art as a catalyst to harmonize cognitive and somatic states.
