Echoes of the Underworld

An immersive dance theatre experience. Step beyond the threshold of the living. This June, the historic rooms of Campbell House Museum transform into a world where echoes of the past and whispers from the underworld begin to surface. Created by choreographer Emily Cheung in collaboration with the dancers of Little Pear Garden Dance Company, Echoes of the Underworld is an immersive dance theatre experience inspired by Chinese folklore, ghost legends, and ritual traditions. Instead of sitting in a theatre seat, audiences move through the historic house in small groups, encountering fragments of a supernatural story unfolding across multiple rooms. In dim corridors and candlelit chambers, lost souls return, memories linger, and ancient rituals begin to awaken. Each room reveals a different thread of the story — a restless spirit, a mysterious apparition, a forgotten lover — until all audience pathways eventually converge in a shared final sequence where the boundary between worlds begins to blur. Rather than watching from a distance, audiences become part of the environment itself, moving through the space as the story unfolds around them. Because of the immersive format and the historic nature of the venue, audience capacity is strictly limited for each performance. Audience Attire (Optional) To enhance the visual atmosphere of the performance, audience members are encouraged (but not required) to wear monochrome attire (black or white). This helps create a unified environment within the historic spaces of Campbell House and allows the performers and visual elements of the production to stand out. Guests are welcome to participate at any level of comfort. Audience Experience & Accessibility Due to the immersive and mobile nature of this performance, audience members will move through multiple rooms of the historic Campbell House Museum during the experience. Audience members should be prepared to: • Stand for portions of the approximately 60-minute performance • Navigate stairs between floors • Be in close proximity to performers and other audience members Because Campbell House is a historic building, seating is extremely limited. A small number of seats may be reserved for patrons unable to stand for extended periods. Each group will experience different scenes and sequences before all groups reunite for the final portion of the performance. Because of the immersive format, not all audience members will see the same scenes in the same order. Age Recommendation This performance includes dark environments, theatrical effects, and moments of suspense. The show is suitable for general audiences but may be intense for younger children. Recommended for ages 10 and up. Babes in arms are not permitted for safety reasons.
