Mendocino Dance Project invites audiences to experience the magic of Dance the Redwoods, an unforgettable site-specific performance that transforms the majestic redwood forest into a living stage. This annual production blends contemporary dance, aerial movement, music, and the natural landscape to create a unique artistic experience found nowhere else in Mendocino County. Rather than watching from a traditional theater seat, audiences are guided through The Brambles as dance unfolds throughout the landscape. The moving performance invites guests on an intimate journey among towering trees, creating an immersive experience that celebrates the beauty, wonder, and interconnectedness of art and nature. Mendocino Dance Project has become recognized for its innovative vertical dance performances that use climbing techniques and contemporary choreography to reimagine natural spaces as performance venues. Dance the Redwoods has become one of the organization's signature events, drawing visitors from throughout Northern California and beyond. "When dance unfolds among the trees, audiences become part of the journey," said Artistic Director Kara Starkweather. "Our hope is that people leave feeling more connected to the landscape, to one another, and to the power of live performance."
