Welcome to a place where your relaxing countryside getaway comes with a twist (several twists, actually… perhaps hidden in drawers or behind bookcases). What’s All This Then? This is no ordinary self-catering stay. It’s a fully immersive, story-driven escape room experience—except instead of racing the clock in a locked room, you’ll have an entire charming Victorian cottage (and possibly a village…) to explore at your leisure. The cottage is in the beautiful village of Belton-in -Rutland, four miles west of Uppingham and six miles south of Oakham. We’re in the heart of the country, in England’s smallest, and possibly proudest, county of Rutland. At the heart of it all is the delightfully eccentric Jannet Bambleforth—a sociable, brilliant antiquarian with a passion for curious objects, clever puzzles, and meaningful friendships. Rather than leaving her beloved cottage to family, she’s devised a far more entertaining plan… The Challenge Jannet has scattered her home with riddles, clues, hidden mechanisms, and ingenious contraptions. Solve them, and you’ll uncover the location of the house deeds—and a few surprises she’s tucked away for worthy minds. No pressure… just your legacy at stake. What To Expect 🏡 A cosy Victorian cottage in a picturesque Rutland village 🧠 50+ unique puzzles—from clever to downright devious 🤝 Play your way: split into teams or collaborate as one brilliant hive mind 🕰️ No ticking clock: take it slow, take breaks, make tea, argue over clues 🔓 Not locked in (we’re not monsters) 📜 Hints available if things get… humbling Puzzles Physical Mechanical Slightly chemical (don’t worry, nothing explosive) Occasionally edible Sometimes noisy Not scary… (Unless you choose to wander the village clue trail in the dark. That’s on you.) Who Is It For? If you enjoy: Solving mysteries Laughing with friends Feeling smug when you crack something tricky …then you’ll feel right at home. You don’t need to be an escape room veteran — this experience is designed to be flexible. Go full detective mode or casually dabble between cups of tea and slices of cake. Best suited for: Groups of friends Families with older children (Not ideal for very young children—unless they’re unusually gifted masterminds.) The Cottage Sleeps 4 comfortably (1 double, 1 twin) 1 bathroom (strategic planning advised) Option to squeeze in 2 extra players (cosy chaos included at no extra charge — two z-beds are provided, bring your own bedding and towels!) Free on site parking for two small/medium sized cars. Further free on street parking. EV charging available, please ask. Inside you’ll find: A well-equipped kitchen (yes, you can cook between clues) Living room for plotting and pondering Wi-Fi, TV, washing machine, dishwasher Woodburner for cosy winter evenings Tea, coffee & milk and homemade cookies on arrival (essential fuel for brainpower)
