The Twelfth Annual Communal Spaces: a garden play festival Two New Plays to Premiere in Moore Jackson Community Garden Queens, New York (9/2/2024) — The Motor Company (Lillian Meredith, Artistic Director; Caitlin Wells, Managing Director) is thrilled to announce its twelfth annual season of Communal Spaces, a unique arts festival that makes theater accessible to everyone and connects communities through their public gardens. Free to audiences, this year’s features two new works by esteemed playwrights Dena Igusti (Apollo Theater, 2018 Teen Vogue Summit, Players Theatre, The Tank) and Jack Towhey Calk (The Asolo Rep, InVersion Theatre, Hudson Theatre Works, The Tank) in the idyllic setting of Moore Jackson Community Garden in Woodside, Queens. Each play is created for and inspired by this particular garden. This season also features live musical performances by Musiquita, Felix Slim, and Kacia Flórez that will precede the plays on select dates. Communal Spaces will kick off on September 14 at 1pm with new play readings from five local playwrights ages 9-12, who participated in the company’s education program, Play On. The Time I had with you Written by Jack Towhey Calk Directed by Ania Upstill Two friends connect, play, and battle trolls in this wordless musical clown play.
