When considering this work, I was drawn to the idea of an anti-performance, creating something that would be unknown to all until it was physically uttered. This work continues my research and examination of a performer's relationship to viewership and audience. With risk and remix at the forefront, Cicada Stories explores chance, choice, and neutrality in a performance setting. How do our expectations differ as we take on the roles of performer or audience member? How do we impact the performance space just by being? What if our actions taken weeks ago were impacting the now, played out on stage? Through constants and variables, this work becomes less of a show and more of an experiment, a game that is played by all. FringeArts presents world-class, contemporary performing arts that challenge convention and inspire new ways of thinking.
