Meet Charley, owner of a themed cocktail bar replete with vintage board games - and not a cellphone in sight. As visitors settle in, Charley introduces a live game of "Name that Tune" from his old mixtapes that becomes a portal into his curious past.
Transforming the Shea Theater Arts Center for two nights into a fictional - and fully-functioning - tropical bar, audience members are invited in out of the New England cold into a cozy world rife with tabletop games, craft cocktails, dreamy music, and more than a few surprises. Our host, Charley has prepared something special for tonight - a running game of "Name that Tune", featuring Charley's old mixtapes from decades ago. But even Charley doesn't seem to be aware of the literal passageways that open into the deeper recesses of the building, leading the curious among us into Charley's memories of the music he had all but forgotten he loved. Charley's is, first and foremost, an escapist ode to pre-digital social gatherings and the tactile nostalgia of tabletop games, with no requirement for attendees to engage further than to enjoy their night at a charming pop-up bar. But, for those interested in exploring the deeper labyrinth of Charley's mind, the bar becomes an invitation into the vast, enchanting memory palace of its owner.
Audience Role
Audience members will be guests at a fully-functioning cocktail bar and board game locale. Much of the evening will be spent in the bar, which also features live entertainment. Those interested in exploring the deeper secrets of Charley's world, will be able to win entry through various bar games to immersive scenes secreted across the show.
