Bottom Of The Ocean
Guests guided to dive inward through a surreal sequence of invented rituals in Bushwick NYC
Bottom Of The Ocean (BOTO) is a surrealist theatrical experience by Houseworld Immersive, taking place in a historic underground space in Bushwick, NYC. Over the course of two hours, five guests journey alone or in pairs through a sequence of invented rituals, exploring the value, meaning, and pleasure we find in ceremony. The experience combines elements of creator Andrew Hoepfner’s other major works: the layered fever-dream of Houseworld and the guided meditation of Whisperlodge. The result is an intimate, introspective journey to an inevitable destination. Bottom Of The Ocean involves some interaction and certain visitors might find the exchanges emotional. Consent and safety is our priority at all times, and we reserve the right to turn anyone away for disorderly or unsafe conduct. Please arrive promptly for your selected performance. Guests who arrive more than 10 minutes late are not guaranteed entry. COVID-19 Protocols: All BOTO performers are fully vaccinated against COVID-19, and all audience members must be fully vaccinated as well. Each BOTO attendee must present valid proof of vaccination at the venue in order to enter the show. We will accept: a physical copy (or smartphone image) of your vaccination card, the NYS Excelsior Pass, or the NYC Covid Safe App. The name on this record will be matched with a drivers license, state ID, or passport. Performers will not be wearing masks in order to better communicate. Each attendee has the option of wearing their face mask or experiencing the show without it. Advisories: A small amount of food and drink is served during the show. Our food items are vegan, gluten-free, and nut-free. Tea tree oil is used, wax candles and incense are burned in the show, and some parts of the show feature high quantities of fog. Tidal Wave and Whirlpool ticket holders will encounter latex, while Undertow ticket holders will not. Please contact us if you have any dietary needs or allergies that we can accommodate. Entry into the show is via stairs, and there is also some stair traversal during the show. We regret that our space does not offer wheelchair access at this time. We’ve spent the last 2 years restoring this basement from the 1800s, but we are not yet at the point where we can afford to build ramps or elevators. Tickets are not refundable or exchangeable under any circumstances. All sales are final.
Audience Role
The audience is guided on a journey, either by themselves or with a companion. They are the center of that journey. Even if the attendee declines every moment of conversation and every action, the full two hour show will still unfold, although the audience will have the best experience if they at least lightly engage with majority of the show's prompts.
