The Berlin Dungeon runs six hundred years of the capital's grimmest history past you in about an hour, staged by professional actors across ten shows built into 360-degree sets. Every story and every character is drawn from real events. You descend in the Elevator of Doom, escape through the secret tunnels, wade into the Plague Street, face the Secret Court and the witch Catarina Selchow — condemned to death and not at all pleased about it — and meet the serial killer Carl Grossmann. There's a raft ride through the dark, and a twelve-metre indoor free-fall tower for anyone whose nerves have held out. Shows run in German, with English tours scheduled daily. It's frightening and funny in roughly equal measure, and the performers never chase or touch you. The Dungeon also programmes seasonal shows and Blackout events — an 18+ after-hours edition in total darkness on selected dates. Check the ticket link for what's running when you visit.
Audience Role
You are cast as an accused Berliner dragged before the Secret Court. Your group is led through the tunnels and chambers in sequence, questioned, judged and condemned, with actors singling out individuals along the way. Participation is invited rather than compulsory.
