Becoming Hamlet

Becoming Hamlet is a participatory theater experience told entirely from Hamlet's perspective, where the audience collectively becomes the prince. In this first-person adaptation of Shakespeare's classic play, we invite you into Hamlet's inner world: to speak the speech, feel the feelings, and shape the unique character that emerges each night. Whether you choose to voice the text or watch the drama unfold from designated observer seating, a stellar cast of professional performers will facilitate your evening, meeting you exactly where you are. There are three ways to experience Becoming Hamlet: The Lords Chairs – Active Participation: Seated on-stage and in the front row, individuals seated in The Lords Chairs will be actively called upon to participate throughout the performance. Audience members will be asked to stand or recite lines of text from their seats. The Chorus Chairs – Light Participation: Seated in the middle of the theatre, The Chorus Chairs will be guided throughout the performance to participate in a primarily group setting, or with an occasional brief line. The Citizens Chairs – No Participation: Seated at the back of the theatre, this section is meant to observe the action with no expectation or pressure to participate. No acting background is required. You do not need to be a trained actor or have any performance experience. No memorization is necessary. The professional ensemble acts as Facilitators to guide you through the action. You will be prompted. The cast will feed you lines clearly and naturally as the story progresses. Come as you are. No previous knowledge of Shakespeare's Hamlet is needed to participate. Becoming Hamlet runs approximately 100 minutes with no intermission.
