ARISE Festival: London edition
Final London shows of Prometheus Rising, a deconstructed opera by Ken Nakajima. Music by Mujuice & Milo McKinnon.
This October, director Ken Nakajima brings his theatrical practice into the world of underground electronic music with Prometheus Rising, a deconstructed 360° opera presented as part of ARISE, the autumn festival by Fetchish. Working across theatre, choreography and visual art, Nakajima has increasingly turned towards underground music and club culture as spaces for experimentation and collective experience. Most recently, he worked as movement director on Buggers, which received a five-star review from The Guardian at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe. Prometheus Rising takes this exploration further, reimagining opera within a club setting through electronic music, theatre and live performance, with an original score by acclaimed musicians Mujuice and Milo McKinnon. Taking place at Unit 58 on 9–10 October, ARISE expands this dialogue into a wider festival programme, bringing together contemporary performance and electronic music with artists including Moa Pillar, Bobby Beethoven, Ushko, and Bassnotesonhope. Audience Role
The audience is placed inside the world of Prometheus Rising rather than observing it from a fixed viewpoint. Presented as a 360° opera within a club setting, the performance unfolds around and among the audience, allowing them to move through the space and experience the work from different perspectives. Spatial sound, live performance and the proximity of performers create an environment in which each audience member’s position shapes their individual experience of the opera. Rather than being asked to perform or interact directly, audiences become active witnesses, free to navigate the space and construct their own relationship with the work.
