Agile Lens in partnership with Actors Theatre of Louisville returns to present A Christmas Carol VR, starring Ari Tarr. In a blending of old and new media, we invite you to join us for a classical Dickensian recital featuring bleeding-edge motion-capture and interactive broadcast technology. Enjoy this live, digital performance from the comfort of your own home as up close and personal as you like. --- Ari Tarr started his theater career starring off-broadway and regional theater as a member of the flying Karamazov Brothers. He attained a degree in multimedia Theater Acting/Directing, under Joanne Akalytis at Bard College, with physical theater mask training with NYU Tisch Grad Director Jim Calder and puppetry with Basil Twist. Tarr is the world's most experienced performer of live VR productions, and is currently the VR acting UI consultant, trainer, and lead host of the multi award-winning Adventure Lab (one of only two professional VR theatre platforms) In 2015 Tarr co-founded a startup for creating VR theater performance tools, working with clients like Occipital and Jaunt VR. He then joined River XR content Studios working with clients like High Fidelity, Bjork and Coldplay. Currently he is a full-time XR immersive theater actor and designer. His XR Theater projects have been featured in the New York Times, Forbes, NBC and Vice. No, the show utilizes cloud streaming and will run on any major browser (Chrome is most stable). If you can get a solid 2k Netflix stream to run, then you’re probably fine. The VR steps are a little more complex and require higher bandwidth, but even that experience will be rendered wirelessly. What VR headsets are supported? At this time, the show only supports Meta Quests (1/2/Pro) but additional support may be added. Watch this space! Why do you need to know where I am physically located? For the latency to stay so low, we need to make sure you’re connected to the closest possible provider. Can I view the show if I’m outside of the United States? Yes, but since we are only spinning up cloud computers in the United States this year, we can’t guarantee a low-latency experience. Purchase at your own risk. What does “interactive web experience” mean, exactly? Great question! In this case, it means you will be represented in the environment with the actors, and you’ll be able to move around in that space freely and watch the show from any location you prefer. It’s like playing a first person video game. What should I do if I am having trouble loading the interactive web or VR experiences? Head to the VR Live Discord and let someone in the ‘A Christmas Carol VR’ channel know your issue. In the meantime be sure to watch the livestream link we send along with your interactive link.
