Hot on the success of their two sold-out trans-dimensional spectacles at the Fiske Planetarium in Boulder, itchy-O, Denver’s post-punk cult-core percussion and performance ensemble returns to earth to rock the Summit with the ARCANE NEXUS, this year’s iteration of the long-standing annual Intergalactic Masquerade soiree. Framed as an invitation to all intergalactic visitors to planet Earth to come out and show off their true selves, this eleven-year-strong event promises another action-packed epic extravaganza, featuring cathartic music, immersive pageantry, prizes and so much more. Renowned for its uncompromising commitment to artistic evolution, itchy-O is poised to redefine the performance experience again with The ARCANE NEXUS. Both hardcore veterans and newcomers are invited to shed preconceptions at the door and pass through a “trans-dimensional portal” into the Summit as it has never been experienced before. With brand new ceremonial regalia and star-blazing new sonic compositions, thee itchy-O will entrain brains, burst branes, and transport celebrants on an unprecedented journey into bold new worlds of synchronic synergy. Prepare to submerge yourself in an ocean of sight, sound, symbol, and spirit. This tempest of percussion and performance will mark a new chapter in itchy-O's storied legacy of boundary-breaking concert art. Carnivale De Sensuale, Denver’s biggest burlesque show will be there to enweirden proceedings even further with their unique, iconic, and occultish brand of bizarre, while DJ Strange Powers will spark things off with his powerful and innovative sonic style.

Audience Role

At an itchy-O show, the audience plays a crucial and dynamic role, much more engaged and participatory than in traditional concert settings. This active involvement is central to the essence of itchy-O performances, which aim to dissolve the conventional barriers between the performers and the audience. The role of the audience at an itchy-O show could be likened to that of a participant in a large-scale ritual or communal act. The powerful, pulsating rhythms of the drum corps, combined with the enveloping electronic sounds and the esoteric, often chaotic visual stimuli, encourage individuals to lose themselves in the experience. This can lead to a collective, almost trance-like state where personal boundaries and individual identities blur into a unified, collective experience.

About THEE ITCHY-O

Since 2009, this Colorado-based meta-mystical ensemble has been thrilling audiences across the U.S. and beyond. A battery of fourteen-plus power percussionists comprises the spine of the fifty-plus strong performance troupe whose orchestral arsenal of avant-instrumentation runs the gamut from guitars, gamelan, and synths to less conventional instruments including theremin and vocoders in concert with more experimental trance-inducing appurtenances. Itchy-O dismantles assumptions of traditional performance models to break down the barriers between audience and experience, administering a blast of ceremonial chaos; baptizing the audience—body, mind, and collective soul—in a spectacular, pan-sensorial sea of music, mystery, and transcendental spiritual spectacle. Itchy-O proudly served as a centerpiece at MONA’s world-renowned Dark MOFO fest in Tasmania in 2016 and is ecstatic to be invited back to perform, again in 2023. They have performed on stage with David Byrne & St. Vincent. JG Thirwell and Dan Deacon have opened for itchy-O and they have warmed up audiences for numerous legendary artists including DEVO, Beats Antique, Iggy Pop, Bad Religion, and Public Enemy. They have performed countless private engagements, including a legendary performance for Maynard Keenan’s Merkin Vineyards in 2019. Jello Biafra’s iconic underground record label, Alternative Tentacles has released three of their groundbreaking studio albums. Itchy-O is also committed to providing spontaneous free public performances in the spirit of upending the mundane and delivering mesmerizing art to the streets by providing impromptu musical encounters in non-traditional settings; delighting unsuspecting audiences with surprise ontological assaults on ordinary reality. www.itchyo.com
