So You Got A Quest2

A newcomer's guide to VRChat worlds

by Fionna

I’m assuming you’re new to VR here, and one of the apps you’re excited to try is the weird and wonderful world of VRChat.  You could just jump right into one of the busy public worlds in the top of the world row, but…you’re likely to have a mixed experience.  Let’s start out a little easier.

First, get your VR legs.  Do the tutorial, take a minute to familiarize yourself with the UI, and find an avatar you are comfortable in for now. Take things easy, enjoy some calm but wonderful visuals and interactions solo.  Don’t push yourself if you feel sick, keep sessions short at first.  Here’s a few calm and easy worlds to start off in:

Chill with a light show that reacts to the music!

Let’s say you just want to experience some music and a light show–the music visualizer worlds by Klinck are a great place to take it in.  Try out all the different menu options in Tunnel, and craft your own audio-reactive visual experience.

If you like this experience, be sure to check out other worlds by this creator!

Now that you’ve seen some fun things and gotten used to VR, it’s time to try out the social aspect!  If you are very brave and want to jump right into the zoo, you can risk the public instances, but you’re likely to have a much better time if you seek out others with similar interests, or engage in structured activities.

VRCon Community Festival 2021

Booking Through: Friday, September 29 2023

A world full of booths featuring communties within VRChat: find yours!

Most social groups within VRChat organize within Discord servers.  But these can sometimes be hard to find, but luckily there is a world that has collected dozens of booths of groups representing an amazing array of interests–from Spiderman fans to dancers, meditation, role-playing, or games.  Visit the VRCon Community Festival world and see if one of the groups there sparks your interest.

If you’d rather just meet people naturally, you can try starting a public instance of a social game.  There are plenty available in the top of the worlds menu, but here are some that are great for breaking the ice.
