The Order of the Golden Scribe: Initiation Tea

Join us in a pop-up escape game dining experience unlike any you've seen before. Teams of four to six will work together to decipher clues, solve puzzles, and unlock teas, finger sandwiches, scones, desserts. However, if you talk to the right order members you might find there is something else afoot. You are formally invited to the afternoon tea and initiation ceremony for new recruits into The Order of the Golden Scribe. This secret Order goes back as long as history has been written, destroyed and rewritten. The key to the Order’s power is utter secrecy. As a new recruit, this shall be your formal induction into the Order. Alongside your tea, you will be presented with the final tests of your training. These puzzles are a mere formality and should be child’s play for someone with your status within the sect. We look forward to your official RSVP to attend this most prestigious and highly secret event. --- The Order of the Golden Scribe: Initiation Tea is a culinary immersive theater and escape game experience. Teams will have to decipher clues through careful observation, making connections and communicating with each other to earn each course of finger sandwiches, scones, and desserts. This intersection of escape room game mechanics with interactive/immersive theater through the lens of a fine dining experience was created for a February 2023 Artist in Residency at the Nancy Manocherian's the cell theatre. After a sold-out run in February and May/June 2023, where No Proscenium called the event "a deliciously diabolical combination of afternoon tea, cult ceremony, and puzzle-solving mayhem", we are back with a new larger venue and bigger cast to host The Order of the Golden Scribe: Initiation Tea. This project is an international collaboration between Shuai Chen (an MIT/Stanford-educated neurobiologist, community builder, and game creator) and Arlo Howard (an award winning game and interaction designer).
