Aṣẹ: Afro Frequencies [WASHINGTON DC]

Artechhouse hosts an empowering, thought-provoking audio-visual exhibition that seeks to articulate, through stunning projections and evocative poetry, the experiences of people of color both today and in times long past but not forgotten. Digital illustrator Vince Fraser states his mission "is to inspire and empower positive, powerful imagery of the African diaspora,” crafting beautifully surreal scenes in the Afrofuturist style, as well as interactive features including the chance for visitors to digitally “try on” African cultural masks. Accompanied by an exhilaratingly  percussive score and gripping spoken-word poetry by award-winning poet Ursula Rucker, this bold exploration of identity, ancestry, and social justice honors the past while envisioning a better future.

Why we think you’ll love it: The concept of "aṣẹ" has its roots in the Yoruban philosophy of finding the power within yourself to produce meaningful change, an idea that from the beginning was woven into both their art and social community beliefs. We could all use some of that power these days, especially in our nation’s Capitol.

The Art of Killin’ It [BROOKLYN]**

Created by Under8ted Movement, TheGotTime Productions, and presented by Future Proof, get ready for a party so wild that not even murder could spoil the mood. You have been invited to Hardigan Manor for the album release party of a major Influencer, an industry event unexpectedly marred by murder most foul. The guests must now become the detectives as they scour the rooms for clues alongside a hilarious cast of memorable suspects eager to puzzle out whodunnit? With an unabashedly comedic tone, an engaging, interactive central mystery, and multiple possible endings driven by the participants' choices, this night of laughs and intrigue is dedicated to showing its audience a good time and, despite the gallows humor, is first and foremost an exhibition for pure BIPOC joy.

Why we think you’ll love it: Buzz in our Discord says that this one has "gorgeous sets," skilled interactions from the performers, and surprises we wouldn't dare spoil here.

Our Options Have Changed [REMOTE]

Flux Theatre Ensemble saw all the major crises and minor inconveniences humanity has been suffering through lately and decided there was only one thing that could meet the moment and help alleviate our strife: a multi-tiered, automated phone tree. All For One, a  wellness company exuding gently sinister corporate benevolence, has set up a "holistic wellness hopeline” ostensibly designed to service the emotional and spiritual needs of anyone feeling worn down or overwhelmed by our increasingly complicated lives by a generously exhaustive selection of à la carte guided rituals and affirmations available at the push of a button. For those who might detect an air of insincerity within this serenity, you may find that there are darker, more subversive options to discover...

Why we think you’ll love it: With hours of material scattered across a labyrinthine network of choices that only seems to grow more expansive the further you explore, this FREE experience is available 24/7 with the ability to disconnect and call back as many times as you like once you register your number.
